Semiotics Preliminary Exercise 1
Roland Barthes Theory of Semiotics
Roland Barthes is one of the primary figures and leading experts regarding semiotics, or the study of sings. Barthes was able to break down signs in media into two components, the signifier and the signified. The signifier is what is being used to represent an idea and the signified is the idea that is being represented by the signifier.
To help explain this theory I analyzed a movie clip of "The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 2".
